Testing for Group B Strep

The test for Group B Strep (GBS) isn’t available on the NHS, instead they use a risk factor  system. It is good to know whether you carry GBS, so precautions can be taken to reduce the risk of your baby developing the infection. The test we have is very reliable and known as gold standard (ECM) in detecting GBS.

The test is very easy to do yourself but if you don’t feel comfortable doing it then ask your midwife to help you. It is best to take the test between 35-37 weeks pregnant, so you have enough time to get the results back for when your baby is born.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and the pandemic we have been unable to fundraise money which sadly means we are going to have to postpone helping to fund the GBS tests until we can raise some funds again. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. You can still purchase the tests from us for the full price of £37.50

Please be sure to order your test BEFORE you reach 33 weeks pregnant.
